Local election for some Executive Committee posts

   Under a new structure of Local 37002’s governance, an Executive Committee will replace the Representative Assembly in January 2010. During the September membership meeting, two candidates were nominated for three of the Executive Committee offices – Editorial Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

   Five other offices were uncontested, so the candidates for those offices were elected without opposition. Those offices are President – Ann Wilhelmy; Commercial Vice President – Gayle Grundtner; Print Sector President – Michael Goblirsch; At Large Representative – Michael Moore; At Large Representative – Candace Lund.

   The three contested offices and candidates for those offices are:

Editorial Vice President – Cheryl Burch-Schoff (Pioneer Press); Warren Wolfe (Star Tribune)

Secretary – Carol Kusnierek, incumbent (Pioneer Press); Steve Brandt (Star Tribune)

Treasurer – Kelly Blaiser, incumbent (Pioneer Press); Chris Serres (Star Tribune)

   All balloting for Editorial Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer will be done by mail. Ballots will be distributed by hand from Oct. 21-Oct. 28 by members of the Election Committee at the following units:

The Catholic Spirit, Pioneer Press, Star Tribune.

   All other ballots will be mailed to the homes of members. Absentee ballots will be available beginning Oct. 12 for members at The Catholic Spirit, Pioneer Press and Star Tribune who will not be available during the distribution period, Oct. 21-28. To request an absentee ballot, please send an e-mail to newspaperguild@mnguild.org.

   All ballots must be postmarked by Monday, Nov. 2. The ballots will be counted on Thursday, Nov. 5.

   The chairs of units with more than 50 members are also part of the Executive Committee. Nominations for those unit offices will take place in November during unit meetings.
